Drawing inspiration from the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean and Far East, Andrew Chulyk creates ......................functional art.that combines the mystique of long lost cultures with 20th century Art Deco style.
These WOOD KEEPSAKE BOXES AND URNS, which are carried in better shops and museums across the country, .................... make an artistic statement as well as offer wide functionality. They vary in size from 4 inches (ring boxes) to 4 feet (furniture for cremains and keepsakes), and are individually hand-made by the artist. The color combinations are rich and subtle, rendering the appearance of the wood to polished metal, and may be customized. They have from 1 to 5 fitted stacking sections which are velvet-lined. Their smoothness invites touch. Their colors evokes serenity.
"I feel that my boxes are more sculpted than assembled. Once the initial form is constructed everything is laboriously hand-sanded to maintain detail of form and fit. The hand sanding continues on through a gesso surface filling process and 2 coats of automotive primer right up to the final coat of paint. The result is a smooth and flawless finish that allows the design of the form and color to become one."
